DREYER'S GRAND ICE CREAM PRODUCTS NOT INVOLVED IN PISTACHIO SALMONELLA INVESTIGATION

As goodwill act, the company is offering to replace consumers’ pistachio products

(Oakland, California – April 1, 2009) -- Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream, Inc. announced today that it is confident its ice cream products that include pistachio ingredients are completely safe to eat. The company said none of the pistachios used in its products come from the lots being voluntarily recalled by Setton Pistachio or John B. Sanfilippo and Son, Inc. In addition, the pistachios used in Dreyer’s products are roasted at high temperatures that kill harmful bacteria.

Dreyer’s, which offers brands that include Dreyer’s, Edy’s and Häagen-Dazs, sells two pistachio flavors in retail stores. They are:
For the Dreyer’s/Edy’s Fun Flavors Spumoni, Dreyer’s has received confirmation from its pistachio vendor that no pistachios originating from either Setton or Sanfilippo are used. The Dreyer’s/Edy’s Fun Flavors Spumoni will remain on store shelves for sale.

For the Häagen-Dazs Pistachio ice cream, while Dreyer’s purchases pistachios from Sanfilippo, it has received confirmation that none of the pistachios purchased are from any of the lots being recalled by either Sanfilippo or Setton.

Dreyer’s empathizes with consumers’ concerns around eating pistachio products. As a goodwill gesture, the company is offering to replace consumers’ purchases of either of these products – Häagen-Dazs Pistachio or Dreyer’s/Edy’s Fun Flavors Spumoni – with a free certificate that may be used to purchase another Dreyer’s/Edy’s or Häagen-Dazs flavor.
